PPC – Pay Per Click Advertising

One of the most effective ways to rapidly launch or grow a business is PPC or Pay-Per-Click Advertising.  The largest and by far most popular system for PPC is Google AdWords, but there are also other competing networks including Bing, Yahoo, and various Affiliate networks such as Commission Junction.  Regardless of the system, the basic advertising principles are the same.  The more you are willing to pay for a click that takes a qualified viewer to your website, the higher your ad will appear on the search engine results page (for example Google).

The trick is knowing how to keep your costs LOW while drawing only the most qualified traffic possible to click on your ads!

Here are a few of the best strategies:

1) Long-Tail Keywords.  Meaning, instead of having “furniture” as your keyword, use a lot of long-tail phrases like “classroom computer table”, “height adjustable computer table”, “4 foot wide computer table”.  There is no limit on how many keywords you can have, so the more specific you are, the more likely it is that your phrase will exactly match the phrase someone is searching for, which drastically lowers your price and leads to more qualified traffic.

2) Negative Keywords.  One of the most crucial things you can do is eliminate confusing words that separate you from a similar sounding but different service.  For example, if you offer a high-end product, you should eliminate words like “free” and “discount” so you don’t pay for low-quality traffic to visit your site.

3) Remarketing.  This is world changing technology, and I was one of the original 200 beta-testers!  Here’s how it works… when a user visits your website, a “cookie” is installed on their computer.  Then, for the next 3o days (or however long you choose) they will see YOUR ads all over the internet on any site that offers Google Adsense space (about 70% of all websites in the world).  This makes you look a lot bigger than you are, and it constantly reminds viewers to return to your site.  You only pay when a user actually clicks your ad!
