Social Media Marketing Consulting

Social Media Marketing is a common buzz phrase used in business circles these days.  At it’s core, social media marketing can be extremely valuable, but it is often done so badly that it actually ends up hurting the brand and leaving a bad taste with everyone who was subjected to their “spammy” or insincere efforts.

The right way to use social media includes publishing interesting, funny, entertaining or valuable (discount codes for example) information on a regular basis without overwhelming your followers.  There are also many ways to gain followers by paying for advertising, especially on facebook which allows for extremely focused ad placements.  The long-term benefits of well-executed social media campaigns can be exceptional due to the “viral” element of the internet.  One really good post can spread exponentially from person to person in a very short period of time due to re-sharing… but the content MUST be good for this to work.

I’m often asked, should I simply buy followers to make my brand look more popular?  The answer to this is usually no, but there are a few exceptions where buying “fake” followers is actually a good thing, for example when you have a new brand with less than 100 followers.  Humans always tend to like things more when they think they are already popular, and they tend to dislike things that appear to be unpopular.  Thus getting your first few hundred followers can be quite difficult, but once you get over the hump of  appearing reasonably popular, legitimate followers will feel more comfortable liking your page or subscribing to your feed etc.  It should be noted that buying a LOT of followers is never a good idea, and can easily backfire on several levels.
